flower design classes? yes, please!

sunday morning design class -smiles for miles!!!

for years customers have been asking if cedarhouse offers flower design classes. i've been a little gun shy to answer yes, not really being able to quantify what i know and not exactly sure what to teach! i'm not a formally trained florist so it has taken me a second to recognize that there are real teachable skills involved in flower design and a lot of people are curious and don't "just know how to do it".  it's been a long and winding road and sometimes hard to remember when and where i picked up a skill or habit. sometimes i imagine i learned everything in my sleep (note to self- get present!). but for the last 25 years i have watched and worked with some of the most talented, innovative, and creative flower designers, flower nerds, flower geeks, hustlers, growers, junkies, peddlers, farmers and connoisseurs. people with amazing intuition as well as technical training. and in that time, it seems i've picked up a few things. still today, i have a flower hotline i refer to regularly; flower friends i'll text technical questions like "do u use zip ties or paddle wire on your installs?" "hv u used the new rose variety 'saga'? does it last?". i have logistic questions like "delivering to the sheraton – do i need to bring my own cart?" "how's the parking at that venue?" i text design questions: "do you have an organic option for flower preservative?" "how many bud vases do you recc for an 8 ft table?" everything i know i've learned from an amazing flower friend and all of that information has been rattling around up there. when we learn by osmosis it can be hard to recognize that we have a real catalog of information and its sharable!

after a little analysis and deconstruction, cedarhouse has put together a really fun class that walks you through the easy steps of designing our most popular, medium sized arrangements. we know it's not brain surgery but after designing one hundred thousand of these puppies we've developed some helpful habits and discovered a few tricks that make it easy and very doable!

warning: may get roudy!

the class is two hours and FUN! we listen to good tunes, sip prosecco, snack on fruit, vanilla wafers, cheese and crackers and learn, very specifically, how to design a gorgeous arrangement using as much local product as the season allows. gather some friends and book a class. gift a class to your sweetheart for christmas, to your mom for mother's day. or just bring yourself in and learn something new!

we look forward to seeing you there!
